Grammy’s golden moment

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato won her first Grammy this year, for Diva, Divo, and took a moment to write about the experience for the Grammy web site. She also posted the piece on her blog, and included the link to her brief acceptance speech. That’s a key bit, so check it out…

(Also to be noted is the detail that Ms. DiDonato’s the first classical singer to be asked to perform for the Grammy audience.)

Brief her speech might have been, but she reminded everyone of their responsibility as musicians to weigh in on the current “war against the arts” in the United States, by supporting music teachers.

Here’s the YouTube of her singing “Non piu mesta” (Rossini’s La Cenerentola) that night. Note the standing ovation at the end.

However, her golden moment came after the awards, and it’s the point all artists should remember.

Brava and congratulations!
