Reading through an old copy of Quilter’s “Love’s Philosophy” the other day uncovered 2 interesting Boosey & Hawkes volumes “… of some of the more successful drawing-room ballads which flourished in the years up to the First World War…” A-ha. “Downton Abbey” concert repertoire. They are:
- Boosey Ballad Album, ISMN 9790060084768
- Boosey Ballad Album 2, ISMN 9790060088025 (printed on request)
Then we saw a book about the Boosey & Hawkes company. Turns out the over 100-year old enterprise has had an exciting and checkered history, which makes excellent reading… Boosey & Hawkes The Publishing Story by Helen Wallace.
Never know what’ll turn up in old sheet music, do you?
